Hello World!

Years ago, when I studied programming, we had to learn to write code to print that small line to the screen. All these years later, it seems every aspect of our lives has gone digital!

We carry a device that permits us to stay constantly connected, regardless of the vast distances between us. Marines I served with overseas who live across the country are just a few seconds away through my device.

Time is also less of a barrier than in the past. A cherished childhood friend we might have lost contact with can be sought out and the friendship rekindled.

But these digital wonders share their own set of risks.

Loved ones and friends may gaze down at their device, during what should be intensely personal moments, missing out on the connection right in front of them.

Mistakes of the past might be dredged up and plastered, such that it feels we will never escape those decisions or grow beyond them.

We can descend into a fog of despair when we are inundated with negative news and opinions.

Or we might feel we are drowning in digital to-do lists that we can never seem to overcome.

Worse, what if someone steals my digital identity and information? How can I ever recover from that?

I want you to know that it’s going to be okay.

There is hope.

My name is David and I am the founder and lead author for DigitalDejunking.com

I decided to create this blog when I noticed some of these problems in my own life.

Despite being happily married and having two amazing children, and having the world at my fingertips through these digital portals, I found myself overwhelmed by this digital jungle.

I have struggled with those email inboxes that seem bottomless, endless, and insurmountable.

I know your pain from a social media feed I can never seem to reach the bottom of and which carries its own emotionally laden burdens.

I feel it each Memorial Day as I see the posts reminding me of my brothers and sisters who have been lost or the posts of others who have lost someone dear.

But in the end, I know that it is okay.

I have learned tips and tricks to better manage these aspects of my own digital life.

I have discovered and implemented tools that have helped me improve those digital relationships.

And I have improved my personal relationships too. I am a better husband, father, and friend for having learned and adopted these things.

That is why I want to share these tips, tricks, and tools with you.

You deserve a life with less stress. A life that is more fulfilling. And to be freed from some of the fears that accompany this newfound digital lifestyle we all are learning to manage.

I invite you to join me through these blog posts and resources and to improve your own digital lifestyle.

Learn from my mistakes and spare yourself some of the struggles.

I and others would love to learn from you too, so I invite you to comment and share when there is an opportunity for further growth.

Please join me on this journey as we explore healthy digital habits, practice effective digital dejunking, and increase our relative productivity.

Come back often to see the latest and greatest lessons learned and new tools I have identified.

We will share some fun stories too and maybe discover something new.

Thank you for visiting me at DigitalDejunking.com and let’s make the most of this journey as we learn to digitize deliberately!

Peace unto you and yours from me and mine.
